PTSD and Medical Marijuana for Veterans
More and more Veterans are using cannabis products to help relieve their symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The list of states that have legalized medical marijuana is growing and along with the legalization, several states (including Nevada) specifically list PTSD as one of the approved qualifying conditions for use.
Since marijuana is still considered a Schedule 1 drug there are not many studies to site regarding the therapeutic use of cannabis for PTSD. But many will attest that medical marijuana for Veterans has changed lives and improved symptoms.
Nightmares – when defenses are down
Veterans with PTSD are more likely to have nightmares. When defenses are down and sleep takes over, dreams of past terrorizing experiences often creep into the minds of Veterans. The strength that veterans are able to show during waking hours eludes them when sleeping. It is a prime time for PTSD to rear its ugly head.
Medical marijuana for Veterans is seen by many as a relief to haunting nightmares. Something as simple as smoking a joint before bed or eating an edible product an hour or two before bedtime can reduce and sometimes eliminate PTSD nightmares.

The VA needs to Wake Up
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has been a roadblock to many vets that could possibly benefit from using cannabis to help their (PTSD). It’s time for the VA to acknowledge that medical marijuana for Veterans can help. And not only acknowledge, but stop penalizing Veterans for medical cannabis use.
